WGES 2026: how buyers can test a green-building claim

As the World Green Economy Summit runs in Dubai, buyers and occupiers need a practical way to separate design language from certification, measured operation and decision-ready evidence.

What is confirmed today

Dubai World Trade Centre lists the World Green Economy Summit for 21–22 October 2026 at Sheikh Rashid Hall, classed under Energy and Environment. The official listing describes the summit as a platform for sustainable development, green-economy investment and policy discussion.

That listing establishes the event and its broad remit. It does not establish that a particular building is efficient, certified, lower-cost to operate, available or suitable for a buyer or occupier.

Put each green claim into one evidence bucket

First separate design intent from delivered specification. A brochure may describe orientation, glazing, controls or equipment planned for the building; the useful follow-up is the approved specification, what was actually installed, who commissioned it and which substitutions were made.

Second, separate certification from measured operation. Ask for the scheme name, version, scope, assessor and current certificate, then check whether it covers the whole building, common areas or a particular fit-out. Certification can be meaningful evidence, but it is not a utility bill or a promise about a specific occupier’s consumption.

Third, request operating evidence on a comparable basis: the period covered, occupied area, occupancy level, operating hours, major loads and whether figures include district cooling or common-area charges. Without those boundaries, two attractive numbers may describe different things.

Translate evidence into the actual property decision

For a home buyer, the practical questions may be comfort, service charges, cooling arrangements, controls, maintenance responsibility and replacement risk. For an office or retail occupier, operating hours, fit-out loads, metering, landlord approvals and responsibility for upgrades can change the result.

Record each item as evidenced, pending or not applicable. Do not convert an event theme, marketing label or modelled saving into a property-level conclusion. Where performance materially affects price or fit-out, obtain the relevant technical and legal review before commitment.
